YouTube Expands Communities Feature to Strengthen Creator-Fan Engagement

YouTube is making strides in improving creator-fan connections by expanding its Communities feature, reducing the need for external platforms like Discord for audience interaction.

Launched last fall at the Made for YouTube event, Communities is still mobile-only. It provides a social space where creators can post text with images, similar to X, while users can engage in discussions without leaving the platform. By keeping these interactions within its ecosystem, YouTube aims to create a more cohesive experience for both creators and fans.

YouTube shared this in its blog post:

“We’ve been testing Communities with a small group of creators and have received great feedback, which is why we’re excited to expand access.”

Creators will now have a moderation system within YouTube Studio’s Community Hub, where they can manage channel activity and get AI-powered suggestions for fan engagement.

The platform has also rebranded the Community tab to “Posts” to better define its engagement features. Communities is still by invitation only, with selected creators notified through email and a banner on their channel page. Once invited, creators can click the “Go to Community” button to activate the feature.

While a wider rollout hasn’t been announced yet, we expect it to become available to all creators once testing wraps up successfully.
