Xiaomi 13 Pro is The New Camera King, Xiaomi 13 Also Gets Big Updates
The next generation of Xiaomi flagship phones has just officially appeared in China. We’re talking about none other than the much-anticipated Xiaomi 13 series, which includes the standard 13 and 13 Pro models, at least for now.
Both phones have an official IP (Ingress Protection) rating for the first time, which was only limited to Xiaomi’s ultra flagships and select affordable phones.
Design And Presentation
Xiaomi ditched last year’s curved screen in favor of a fully flat screen. The bezels of this 6.36-inch 120Hz OLED panel are smaller than ever, resulting in a 93% screen-to-body ratio, according to Xiaomi. It’s a 1080p screen that supports HDR10+, Dolby Vision and a maximum brightness of 1900 nits.
Unfortunately, despite being a flagship, the screen doesn’t get LTPO treatment, meaning you don’t get lower refresh rates to save battery life.
The Pro brother maintains its curves over the larger 6.73-inch LTPO AMOLED panel with 2K resolution. It can reach the same maximum brightness at 1900 nits and is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus.
Internal Components And Software
Both phones share the same cutting-edge chipset, Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. It should be significantly ahead of its predecessor, at least according to the first benchmark results. This is combined with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0-based storage. There is no memory card slot.
As for software, the phones come with Android 13 out of the box with Xiaomi’s new MIUI 14. The new operating system brings many new features and performance improvements, which we will cover in a separate article.
Cameras
Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro have radically different camera settings. While the vanilla model has a 50 MP (1/1.49″) image sensor behind the main camera, the Pro model opts for the massive 1-inch Sony IMX989 that graced Xiaomi’s 12S Ultra. It’s also a 50-megapixel shooter, but it comes with another duo of 50-megapixel cameras for telephoto zoom (3.5x optical) and ultra-wide-angle shooting.
The standard Xiaomi 13 only has a 10MP telephoto lens and a 12MP ultrawide unit. Both phones can record up to 8K video with OIS and use the same 32MP wide-angle selfie camera.

Battery And Price
There is a 4500mAh cell in the Xiaomi 13 with 67W wired charging, but the Pro has a larger 4820mAh battery with 120W wired charging. Both have 50W wireless charging, which is faster than the wired charging of most other flagship phones. There’s also 10W reverse wireless charging support for your other devices and accessories.
Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro have a starting price of $575 and $750 respectively. World prices will likely be slightly higher.
