Intel has alluded to a forthcoming “Windows refresh” slated for 2024 as part of its strategy to boost sales.
During Citi’s recent analyst conference, Intel’s Chief Financial Officer, David Zinsner, hinted at an imminent Windows update that could drive consumers to consider upgrading their PCs.
In his own words: “We actually believe that 2024 will be a favorable year for clients, especially due to the impending Windows refresh. We continue to observe an aging user base that could benefit from a refresh, and we anticipate that next year might mark the beginning of this trend, driven by the Windows catalyst.”
These remarks from Zinsner, which came to light about a month ago, were originally reported by PC Gamer. They follow several months of internal Intel documents hinting at Windows 12. Intel appears to be preparing its Meteor Lake desktop platform for the next iteration of Windows, potentially labeled as Windows 12.
While Microsoft has not officially disclosed any plans regarding Windows 12, there are signs suggesting the company is contemplating the integration of AI-powered features into future Windows versions.

Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s Head of Consumer Marketing, mentioned in a prior interview with The Verge, “As we embark on the development of future Windows iterations, we will explore opportunities where AI can naturally enhance the user experience.”
Microsoft appears to be quietly laying the groundwork for a stronger emphasis on AI within Windows. Given these developments, the prospect of Windows 12 coupled with a hardware upgrade focused on AI co-processors is becoming increasingly plausible.
