Windows 11 Slows Down Some SSDs
Windows 11 has several problems to fix. The new operating system has been out for months and we keep finding new problems. One can only hope that it doesn’t go in the same direction as Windows 10.
It turns out that some NVMe SSDs are significantly slower on Windows 11 compared to other operating systems.
For layman, SSDs, or SSDs, are fast storage devices that are used with hard drives in computers. Some Reddit users have reported that the random write speeds on their SSDs have been reduced in the new operating system.
The Reddit post also shares screenshots of the reported issue.
The results show that random write speeds can be 2-4 times slower in some cases. The problem is also not related to a specific drive as it affects multiple drives from different manufacturers.
The problem is worse for some users as their random read speeds also decrease. Some have reported that only the drive that Windows 11 is installed on is slow while other drives are running at full speed.
The read and write speeds are exactly what you would expect from these drives, and in some cases, the speeds have even improved.
The problem isn’t new either, as similar posts were made three months ago on Reddit. In one such message, a Microsoft representative confirmed that the company is aware of the problem and is investigating the cause. But that was about three months ago and similar posts in Microsoft forums have been active since today.
