Will The Government Of Pakistan Issue A Rs10,000 Banknote?
Social media users have shared an image of a Rs 10,000 note claiming that the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) is willing to issue higher denomination notes.
The claims are false for several important reasons, although the rumors have sparked debates about the local currency’s precarious state and its parity with other currencies.
Yaseen Anwar, who served as the 17th governor of the SBP from October 19, 2011, to January 31, 2014, is identified as governor in the picture of the Rs 10,000 note circulated on social media.
It should be noted that all new banknotes issued by the central bank bear the name of the current governor of the SBP.
Through the media spokesperson, a representative of SBP has urged the public not to believe such rumors and to confirm the accuracy of all reports about the banknotes on SBP’s website and social media accounts.
False information about the Rs 10,000 note was also published in 2018.
