Will Smith makes a shocking move to apologize for Oscar’s slap in the face
Will Smith officially offers his resignation from the entire Oscars round-up to the Academy in a ‘heartbreaking statement’.
Smith’s decision was announced as part of an official statement released on Friday.
According to Page Six, “I am resigning my membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and will accept such other consequences as the board deems appropriate.”
The King Richard actor also revisited the incident in his statement, adding, “My actions during the 94th Academy Awards were shocking, heartbreaking and inexcusable.”
“The list of people I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, everyone present and a global audience at home.”

Smith went so far as to admit that he feels he “betrayed” the trust of the entire academy and “deprived” contestants and winners of an opportunity to celebrate.
Before the end he also admitted: “I am heartbroken” and vowed “never again to let violence prevail over reason”.
