WhatsApp Will Soon Allow You To Download Full Quality Images
WhatsApp allows you to choose between different quality options for sharing photos, but it doesn’t allow you to download them in their original quality. This will soon change with an update as the feature has already appeared in the latest beta version of WhatsApp.
Currently, you can choose between “Data Saver”, “Automatic” and “Best Quality” when uploading images, but the “Best Quality” option does not allow you to share images with the highest quality. It just compresses the image a little less than the other options.
However, as part of a recent WhatsApp beta update (version 2.23.2.11), the app finally offers full-quality image downloads. As always, the feature was spotted by WABetaInfo.
The screenshot below shows how to use the feature, at least in beta. With that in mind, it’s worth noting that there may be some changes before it reaches the stable version of WhatsApp.
As the screenshot shows, when you select an image from your gallery, you get a new gear option at the top. This allows you to choose from various photo quality options, including uploading original images.
You can finally show off your photography skills or your silly animal photos with all their megapixels.
Please note that downloading images in their original quality also consume more internet bandwidth, so it is recommended to use this option only over Wi-Fi connections if you have mobile internet limitations.
Hopefully, WhatsApp will also add the ability to choose between Wi-Fi and mobile internet connections for original quality downloads.
The feature is still in development, so it’s unclear when it will be released to everyone.
