Vladimir Vladimirovich Makei was a Belarusian politician who served as the Foreign Minister of Belarus.

Vladimir Makei Early Age And Education
He graduated from the Minsk State Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages in 1980. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, he served in the USSR Armed Forces and the Belarusian Armed Forces.
In 1993 he retired as a colonel. In 1993 he graduated from the Austrian Diplomatic Academy.
Vladimir Makei Career
Vladimir Makei served in the ministry as secretary of various departments: Information and Humanitarian Cooperation, Analysis and Prognosis, Office of the Minister, and State Record Service.
From 1996 to 1999 he worked as an adviser at the Belarusian embassy in Paris and at the same time represented Belarus at the Council of Europe. From 2000 to 2008 he was an adviser to the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and from 2008 to 2012 he was the President’s chief of staff. He has been Foreign Minister since 20th August 2012.
During the 2020 Belarusian protests, Makei told a meeting at the foreign ministry that anyone who disagreed with state policy should leave the ministry. It also banned employees from participating in protest activities. Two employees who had been picketing with blank sheets were fired within a week (one told reporters he was fired for “gross dereliction of duty”).
In February 2021, Makei accused the diplomats of inciting riots and publishing “anti-state” information. Mikalai Khalezin, director of the Free Theater of Belarus, claimed that Makei was responsible for trying to discredit his theater over Khalezin’s anti-Lukashenko activities.
Pavel Latushko, a former ambassador to France and Poland, claimed Makei expressed anti-Russian views in front of European and American diplomats, but after the 2020 election, he turned around.
Makei spoke Belarusian, Russian, German, and English.
Vladimir Makei Cause Of Death
Vladimir Makei, Belarus’ foreign minister, died suddenly on Saturday at the age of 64, the country’s foreign ministry said.
“Vladimir Makei, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, passed away suddenly today,” the foreign minister said on his official Facebook account, without giving any details about the circumstances of the foreign minister’s death.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on Saturday offered his condolences to Makei’s family and friends, according to a statement published on the president’s website.
Makei was scheduled to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Monday. In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed its sadness at the news of his death and called him a “true friend” of Russia.
“The management and employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation deeply regret the untimely death of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Vladimirovich Makei on November 26 this year,” the statement said.
“A prominent diplomat and statesman have died, a true patriot who dedicated his life to serving his country and protecting his interests on the international stage.”
