Users Report Dark Mode Facebook Disappeared Suddenly From Android & iOS Apps

Last Updated on: 27th May 2021, 12:16 am

Facebook’s dark mode option appears to have disappeared from Android and iPhone apps, and it is still not clear why or how many users are affected.

The option to enable a darker theme has become increasingly popular with users and app developers. Apple and iOS also offer their own support for system-wide dark topics.

In recent years, the number of apps that now support dark mode has grown steadily. However, there are still a number of popular apps that do not yet use this feature or that need to make it available on both platforms.

For example, while Snapchat’s dark mode can be activated on an iPhone, it’s not yet available on Android. In the case of Facebook, the company tested the feature with users over the course of 2020 before making it available to all users.

Although available, some users recently visited Twitter and other websites to confirm an issue with Facebook’s dark mode support.

In essence, the option to enable the darker theme is completely gone for them. According to reports, this is an issue for users on both Android and iOS platforms. In addition, the removal also appears to affect users in multiple countries, suggesting that the problem is not just one location related.

Despite the huge number of reports that are surfacing right now, Facebook has yet to confirm why support for dark mode has suddenly gone.

There could be a problem updating the Facebook app

According to the listings in the Google Play Store and the App Store, the Facebook apps for Android and iOS have received an update in the last twenty-four hours.

Given how long it has been the spike in reporting and recent app updates, it wouldn’t be surprising if the updates broke support for Dark Mode.

Some complaints about Down Detector also seem to point to the issue that first appeared after an app update, indicating that not only has dark mode gone, but the entire design has reverted to the normal older version.

Since the problem appears to affect both operating systems, the question arises as to whether the removal of Dark Mode was accidental or intentional.

If the problem is related to the latest app updates, it also suggests that not all users are currently affected by the lack of a dark theme. For example, those who haven’t updated their Facebook app can still access it.

Likewise, one option to regain support for dark mode could be to revert to an older version of the Facebook app, if available. Either way, until Facebook officially confirms whether it was accidental or intentional deletion, it is unclear why Dark Mode suddenly disappeared from Android and iOS apps and whether a return is expected soon.
