Unveiling of the first official portrait of Elizabeth as Britain’s Queen
On Saturday, the royal family unveiled the first official portrait of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth as their sovereign.
Buckingham Palace, which shared the stunning photo of the young Queen, said: “On this day 70 years ago, just twenty days after her accession to the throne, the Queen posed for her first official portraits as sovereign.”
The palace also shared details, saying the iconic photos were taken by Dorothy Wilding to create portraits to be used as the basis for the Queen’s image on new coins, banknotes, and stamps, as well as Her Majesty’s official portrait to be sent to all UK embassies worldwide.

“As part of this year’s #PlatinumJubilee celebrations, @royalcollectiontrust is organizing a special exhibition in the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace which will feature an exhibition dedicated to the Queen’s accession to the throne in February 1952,” he added.
