The United States is Increasing Visa Fees For Several Categories
The United States has announced increases in visa fees for several categories, with the new changes taking effect on 30th May 2023. The fee adjustment is intended to take into account the increased costs for visa processing and consular services.
As part of the revised fee structure, the application fee for US visitor visas and other non-petition-based NIVs (nonimmigrant visas) will increase from $160 to $185. This category includes tourist visas, business visits, and medical care, among others.
For application-based visas such as H, L, O, P, Q, and R visas, the fee increases from $190 to $205. These visas are generally applied for by individuals with special skills, those transferring to a US company, or those participating in cultural exchange programs.
In addition, the fee for applying for an e-Visa, which is aimed at traders and investors, will be significantly increased from US$205 to US$315.
It is important to note that fee adjustments do not affect visa processing time and are solely intended to maintain the quality and efficiency of the consular services provided by the US government.
In a related announcement earlier this month, the United States announced that it was removing the requirement for travelers to present proof of full vaccination with an approved COVID-19 vaccine to board flights bound for the United States. This decision is intended to facilitate travel and ensure compliance with required health and safety protocols.
These recent developments underscore the U.S. government’s continued efforts to adapt its visa policy to the evolving needs of travelers and to strike a balance between facilitating legitimate travel and covering administrative costs.
