A United Arab Emirates (UAE) company has partnered with a Chinese manufacturer to produce electric airplanes and passenger drones, also known as air taxis, in Abu Dhabi.

Monarch Holding and EHang Holdings will develop the first facility in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to manufacture and operate environmentally friendly passenger and cargo aircraft and drones.

This collaboration supports Abu Dhabi’s industrial strategy to implement innovative technologies, green policies, and circular economy frameworks to shape a sustainable and smart economy.

This cooperation will make it possible to achieve many goals, including the production of electric aircraft and drones, the construction of a command and control center to manage urban air traffic, and the development of infrastructure for vertiports and facilities to operate these aircraft. As part of this partnership, Emiratis will also have training and qualification opportunities.

According to Rashed Abdulkarim Al Blooshi, Under-Secretary of Abu Dhabi’s Ministry of Economic Development, the emirate is prioritizing knowledge-based and innovation-driven economic sectors.

He added that his industrial strategy will play an important role in achieving his goals as it focuses on the use of methodologies and technologies such as Industry 4.0, circular economy, talent development, activation ecosystem, and value chain development.

What is Industry 4.0?

Industry 4.0, known as the fourth industrial revolution, is the integration of new technologies into the manufacturing and industrial sectors. It uses the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and big data to make production more efficient and adaptable.
