UAE To Implement Remote Healthcare Services Mandatory Under New Law

All healthcare providers in UAE are required to provide at least one type of remote healthcare service to patients under upcoming regulations. The Department of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) will launch the Smart Digital Health framework later this year and it will apply to both public and private sector medical facilities.

The head of MoHAP’s Department of Digital Health Strategy and Investment Section, Shaikha Hasan Al Mansory, made the announcement during the Remote Forum in Dubai.

Under the new framework, providers must offer one of four types of remote services, including counseling, drug prescribing, patient monitoring or robotic surgery.

Medical facilities that do not currently offer remote or telemedicine services are receiving government support to set up at least one by the end of the year.

Al Mansory also stressed the need to develop remote healthcare services, especially given the rise of the medical tourism industry in the UAE.

The new laws will also establish appropriate guidelines for healthcare professionals and ensure physician accountability in diagnostic services, drug prescriptions and telemedicine.

Import Of Medicines For Personal Use

MoHAP had earlier reminded residents and tourists to use one of two online services to import personal medicines and medical devices after receiving an electronic permit.

Travelers or residents can import medicines or medical devices by obtaining prior authorization or by disclosing their imports after arrival at the ports. These services can be used on the MoHAP website or app in the Services section.
