How The UAE Determines Fuel Prices
Before 2015, the UAE government regulated fuel prices and kept them constant for long periods of time. This implied that prices did not fluctuate with market prices or production costs.
The UAE government lifted controls on fuel prices in 2015, meaning they are now market-determined and subject to change depending on factors such as world oil prices, supply and demand, and other economic factors.
However, in 2020, at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the UAE government decided to re-regulate fuel prices to help residents and businesses affected by the pandemic.
The United Arab Emirates decided in March 2021 to deregulate fuel prices again, allowing them to be set by market forces.
