Two UAE nationals tragically lost their lives, and three others were injured in a car crash while traveling in Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) confirmed on Friday.
The Ministry, working closely with the National Search and Rescue Centre of the National Guard, organized an air ambulance mission to transport the injured citizens back to the UAE. With the help of Saudi authorities, the three were flown to Sheikh Khalifa Medical City Hospital after receiving initial treatment at King Khalid Hospital in Hail. The bodies of the deceased were also returned to the UAE.

MoFA thanked Saudi authorities for their cooperation, which played a crucial role in the success of the air evacuation and the safe return of the injured and deceased.
In a similar incident in August 2023, a father and his four children, all Jordanian citizens of Palestinian descent, died in a car crash while returning from Umrah in Saudi Arabia. The tragic collision occurred on the Makkah-Riyadh road. The mother survived and is stable in a local hospital.
Earlier that year, five people lost their lives in a crash on Saudi Arabia’s Al Batha-Haradh highway. One vehicle, registered in the UAE, was carrying a family of 12, while the other, with a Saudi registration, had seven family members. The crash resulted in one vehicle catching fire, and eight others were injured.

These incidents have raised growing concerns about road safety in the UAE. A recent survey by the Lloyd’s Register Foundation World Risk Poll found that road accidents are now considered the top safety threat in the UAE, with 28% of respondents citing them as their biggest concern. This is more than double the percentage of those worried about economic issues like job loss and rising costs.
