UAE is Tightening Regulations On How To Deal With Misbehaving Passengers On Flights
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has adhered to a global protocol that allows airport authorities to take strict action against disorderly passengers entering the country via international airlines.
Beginning May 1, 2023, authorities have the legal power to take action against passengers involved in physical assault, harassment, smoking, and failure to follow crew instructions.
New rules are being introduced to fill a loophole in aviation law that allows disruptive passengers to avoid prosecution for minor misconduct, regardless of the plane’s country of registration.
Aircraft incidents can jeopardize flight safety, delay flights and disrupt operations, affecting passenger travel plans and crew working environments.
Disruptions that occur on flights can jeopardize flight safety, cause flight delays and disrupt flight operations, ultimately affecting passengers’ travel plans and creating hostile working conditions for the flight crew.
The 2014 adoption of the Montreal Protocol (MP14) by the United Arab Emirates aims to improve the global legal framework to combat in-flight misconduct. The move gives the United Arab Emirates more responsibility for dealing with disorderly travelers arriving in the country.
