UAE Are Building The World’s Largest Waste Incineration Plant in Dubai

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, inaugurated an innovative renewable energy power plant in Dubai with an investment of AED4 billion (US$1.09 billion).

Located in Warsan, the project is set to become the world’s largest and most efficient waste-to-energy plant. It would generate 220 megawatt hours of renewable energy, enough to power about 135,000 homes. The plant would also process 2 million tons of waste per year and minimize the environmental impact.

Expressing his gratitude for the teams involved in the project, Sheikh Hamdan tweeted, saying, “We congratulate the outstanding teams involved in this unique project to build a more sustainable future.

The project is currently in the first phase of operation and is expected to be completed next year. This announcement follows the UAE’s pledge to invest up to AED 200 billion in the renewable energy sector.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, said the cabinet had approved an updated national energy strategy to triple the contribution of renewable energy over the next seven years. This investment is critical to meet the growing energy needs of the country’s fast-growing economy.

Sheikh Mohammed also announced approval of a national hydrogen strategy. The strategy would position the UAE as a producer of low-emission hydrogen, which is an important source of clean energy.

In addition, a specialized national research and development center will be created, focusing on advances in the hydrogen sector.
