UAE Announces New Year Holiday Schedule for 2025

The UAE’s Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) has announced that Wednesday, January 1, 2025, will be a public holiday for government employees to celebrate the New Year. Government offices will reopen on Thursday, January 2, 2025, as confirmed in a statement shared on Twitter.

Holiday for Private Sector Employees

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) has also declared January 1 a paid holiday for private sector employees. This is the first official holiday of 2025, aligning with the country’s list of public holidays released earlier this year.

Public Holidays in 2025

Residents in the UAE can expect 13 public holiday days in 2025.

Shorter Eid Al Fitr Break

A noticeable change this year is a shorter Eid Al Fitr holiday. Residents will have up to four days off, covering the first three days of Shawwal, the month following Ramadan. This is a reduction compared to the nine-day break, including weekends, observed in 2024.

Rules for Changing Holidays

Public holidays, except for Eid, can be shifted to align with the start or end of the week based on UAE Cabinet decisions. However, holidays falling on weekends cannot be moved to weekdays. Individual emirates may also announce additional holidays when needed.

This announcement allows employees across both sectors to plan their schedules while enjoying the year’s first holiday.
