Twitter Prohibits Users From Sharing Photos Of People Without Their Consent
Twitter has introduced new rules to strengthen the privacy of its users. The development comes a day after Parag Agrawal replaced Jack Dorsey as the new CEO of Twitter.
As per revised rules, Twitter forbade users to share photos and videos of other people on the microblogging platform without their consent. These rules do not apply to public figures.
Twitter has also decided to allow anyone other than public figures to ask the company to remove their shared photos and videos without their permission.
In an official statement, Twitter said:
Sharing pictures and videos is an important part of the user experience on Twitter. People should be able to choose whether or not to share their private media publicly. To this end, the company has decided to expand the scope of its private information policy. The updated policy will help curb abuse of the media to harass, intimidate and disclose people’s identities that disproportionately affect women, activists, dissidents, and members of minority communities.

Twitter previously prohibited users from sharing an address, identification documents, contact details, financial account information, and other private information, including biometric and medical records, without their consent.
The company also banned users from threatening to publicly divulge someone’s private information, share information that would allow them to hack into someone’s private information, and claim a financial reward for publishing it. Or not publish someone’s private information.
