Tommy Robinson claimed he was being deported from Mexico on “national security grounds” after saying he was arrested while on an Easter holiday with his family.
Robinson, real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, shared footage of him allegedly being arrested at Cancun airport while on vacation with his three children.

In clips shared on Telegram, the 39-year-old films an interaction between himself and a man believed to be an immigration officer, while also showing the “holding cell” where he would be held.

“They arrested me, they separated me from my children and now they are deporting me for reasons of national security,” he explains.
During a call with Cancun airport staff, Robinson learns that the information about his arrest is “confidential” but has come straight from the capital, Mexico City.
After saying he’s a journalist and defending his cause, he adds: “I’ve never broken a law here. I only talk about Islam at home.”
Robinson, who tells his 157,000 followers he’s been to Mexico three times and has never committed a crime, questions the charges he’s said to have been deported on.
“I never caused any trouble, I ended up on what was clearly a family vacation and was arrested, jailed and separated from my children.”
Various reports suggest Robinson will be sent back to England on Saturday, while he himself has said his children’s mother will have to fly to pick them up.
MailOnline has reached out to Robinson for comment.
It’s not the first time the EDL co-founder has run into trouble abroad.
In 2020, it was widely reported that he fled to Spain after an arson attack on his wife Jenna Vowles’ home.
Robinson said they have secured places at local schools for their three children but are still “in the process” of finding permanent housing for them.

He added, “I need my family to get out because they’re basically not safe.”
But in a surprising U-turn, he later announced he would not be moving to Spain permanently because England was “my home”.
While he claims never to have committed a crime in Mexico, the far-right activist has already been convicted of violence, fraud and harassment in the UK.
In November 2013, Robinson pleaded guilty to fraud and was jailed for 18 months. He was also convicted of criminal harassment, assault, use of another person’s passport, threatening behavior and contempt of court.

Robinson is currently being sued by creditors for an estimated £2million after being asked to pay compensation to a Syrian schoolboy he falsely accused of assaulting a girl.
He filed for bankruptcy in a High Court defamation suit brought against him by refugee youth Jamal Hijazi last year.
However, anti-racism activists have accused the convicted scammer of “hiding millions” to avoid paying the teenager.
Campaign group Hope Not Hate claim Robinson has access to up to £3million worth of assets through property purchases, investments, donations and book sales.
