This is What The Insurance Policy Covers If Your Car is Damaged By Heavy Rain in The UAE
As the United Arab Emirates (UAE) continues to experience heavy rainfall, vehicle owners are advised not to park their vehicles in wet areas.
According to Moin-ur-Rehman, CEO of Unitrust Insurance Broker, most insurance policies do not cover damage to a vehicle’s engine if it is submerged in water.
Moin suggested that if all or part of a vehicle is submerged in water and sustains damage, the owner can make an insurance claim. However, if the vehicle was parked in a flooded area and the engine was damaged as a result, the motorist may not be able to make a claim from the insurance company.
Moin advised motorists to be aware of their surroundings when driving through flood plains and to read the terms of their insurance policies carefully to understand what covers floods and natural disasters.
He also advised drivers to opt for a comprehensive insurance plan that allows for additional services like towing and roadside assistance.
Policybazaar UAE CEO Neeraj Gupta also urged drivers to drive cautiously on the roads in heavy rain and be aware that driving on flooded roads only increases the risk of engine damage, which is generally not covered by the policy.
He advised people not to start their car when stuck in traffic on a flooded road as this could damage the engine and result in denial of an insurance claim.
Gupta also noted that many insurers report an increase in engine damage of around 20-25% during the rainy season.
