This is How Much Pakistanis Consumed The Internet in 2022
According to a new report by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), high-speed internet consumption in Pakistan continues to grow month by month.
This is reflected in the average monthly data consumption, which increased to 6.8 GB per user in the outgoing fiscal year 2021-22 (FY22).
Each Pakistani broadband user consumed 81GB of data in FY22, showing double-digit growth of 11% over the average annual internet consumption per person of 73GB in FY22.
During the period under review, 8,970 petabytes of mobile data usage were reported in Pakistan, a 31% increase over the previous year. Five years ago, mobile data usage in the country was 1,262 petabytes.
The proliferation of broadband services has fueled the active use of data services by Pakistanis. In addition, the growth in data consumption is due to the fast internet as well as the various internet plans offered by mobile companies on a daily or monthly basis.
Most users consume data to access social media platforms including WhatsApp, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.
Social media users have also increased significantly in Pakistan. It is estimated that 70 million social media users are currently active on various platforms. In addition to social networks, citizens consume data to make purchases through e-commerce platforms, mobile banking, and browsing.
