The UAE Officially Announce The Celebration Of The Islamic New Year

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) government has confirmed that federal officials will benefit from a public holiday to mark the Islamic New Year.

As reported by the Khaleej Times, federal government officials will have a day off on Friday, July 21, to mark the Hijri New Year.

Unlike the Gregorian calendar, the Islamic calendar follows a lunar-based system based on observations of the moon. Therefore, the exact dates of Islamic events may vary depending on when the crescent moon is sighted.

According to Emirates Astronomical Society (EAS) President Ibrahim Al Jarwan, 1 Muharram will most likely begin on Wednesday 19th July.
