The Odisha Cabinet has recently sanctioned several initiatives, notably the inception of the ‘SWAYAM’ scheme, aimed at providing interest-free loans of up to Rs 1 lakh to rural unemployed youths and aspiring entrepreneurs for fostering business development.

Under this Swayam yojana gov in scheme, the state government plans to extend interest-free bank loans of up to Rs 1 lakh to unemployed youths aged between 18 and 35, to facilitate the establishment of new enterprises or the expansion of existing ones.

Chief Secretary PK Jena announced on Monday that the state Cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, has approved a proposal in this regard.

The government scheme has allocated funds amounting to Rs 448 crore for the implementation of the scheme, which is slated to run for two years.

Eligibility Criteria for the SWAYAM Scheme:

At the meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday at the Lok Seva Bhawan, the state Cabinet endorsed 26 recommendations. Young individuals aged between 18 and 35 residing in rural areas are eligible to apply for loans under SWAYAM, to initiate or expand their business endeavors.

Official sources stated, “Unemployed youths in rural areas within the age bracket of 18-35 years (18-40 years for special category individuals) who do not have existing loans from any central or state government-sponsored schemes for similar purposes and aspire to start or expand their business ventures will receive interest-free bank loans of up to Rs 1 lakh for their projects.”
