Stephen Boden and Shannon Marsden ‘beat and burn’ Finley Boden in ‘repeated acts of serious violence’.
A court has heard a mother and father who smoke weed committed a “wild and brutal” murder of their baby on Christmas Day.
The parents are accused of causing 57 broken bones and 71 bruises in the 10-month-old boy before he collapsed during the 2020 Covid lockdown.
The little boy died 39 days after being placed in the care of his parents.

Parents Beat And Burned Their Son
Paramedics were called to the address at 2:33 a.m. on Christmas Day and found Marsden “distraught and screaming” and the pulseless boy, who was revived by Boden, on the kitchen floor.
Finley was taken to the hospital where doctors attempted to save him but he was tragically pronounced dead at 3:45 am.
Jurors at Derby Crown Court saw footage of two burns on the young man’s left hand; one “from a hot flat surface”, the other probably “from a cigarette lighter flame”.
The inside of little Finley’s mouth was ‘torn’ and Ms. Prior suggested it was caused by a pacifier or bottle being pushed into his mouth.
The baby also suffered a ‘spiral’ fracture in one femur, usually caused by a twist.
And a broken tibia in Finley’s lower legs was “consistent with being pinned and grabbed and twisted by the ankle”.
The court was told that the cause of the baby’s death was multiple episodes of non-accidental blunt trauma.

At 6:45 a.m., hours after her son’s death, officers were ‘surprised’ when “the topic of conversation in the (police) car was what Christmas Day’s dinner was”.
On Boxing Day, the couple was heard “laughing and joking around” at a relative’s home, Prior said.
On 19th December the couple was ordered to “take him to the doctor”, but Finley, who was not registered with a GP, was not taken.
Instead, he was reportedly given doses of liquid acetaminophen.
Boden later told a relative that the couple didn’t call an ambulance for an hour because they wanted to buy a cannabis joint and hide the drug stash, Prior said.
When Marsden visited Finley’s body in a hospital rest chapel on 11th January 2021, he said, “His father beat him to death. I didn’t protect him.
After they were arrested and released on bail in the event of a no-show, the court learned that social workers saw Boden and Marsden at a park on 31st January.
The Crown says the couple, who met when Marsden was 17, “was in a relationship… until they were charged” and repeatedly ‘lied’ to cover up what they had done.
Boden, of Romford Way in Barrow Hill, Chesterfield, and Marsden, who is of no fixed abode, denies murder, two counts of child abuse, and two counts of causing or permitting the death of a child.
