Sindh Govt Increases Minimum Wage To 25,000 Rupees
The Sindh Government has set the minimum wage at Rs 25,000 in its budget for the fiscal year 2022-23.
Provincial Industry, Commerce, and Cooperatives Minister Jam Ikramullah Dharejo announced the development, saying the government is aware of the problems faced by ordinary men.
He said the government has ordered all employers and factory owners to pay a minimum amount of rupees. 25,000 to its unskilled workers from June 1, 2022. The decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of the Sindh Minimum Wage Council on 8 June.
“All board members agreed with the president’s proposal,” he said.
The next day, the Sindh Government also issued an official notice setting the minimum wage at Rs 25,000 per month for adult unskilled workers and minors employed in Sindh industrial/commercial establishments.
On the other hand, Khalil Ahmed Baloch, a member of the Minimum Wage Council representing employers, said the Rs 6,000 increase in the minimum wage was too much, which would shut down many industries, and workers would suffer.
“We are raising the minimum wage to Rs 25,000 because it is a political decision,” he said.
