Sindh Eliminates Controversial Topics From The O-Level Syllabus
The Sindh Ministry of Education has taken steps to remove material deemed objectionable from the O-level syllabus. According to Rafia Javed, co-head of the department, a chapter on “gay family” in the high school sociology textbook has been banned.
Another chapter on “History and Culture of Pakistan” in the book “Pakistan Studies” was also banned.
Rafia Javed said these chapters go against Pakistan’s cultural values and called on private schools to exclude them from their curriculum.
Responding to concerns expressed by Senators Mohsin Aziz and Senator Faisal Saleem Rehman about content that contradicts Islamic and cultural teachings and Pakistani social values, Federal Minister of Education and Training Rana Tanveer Hussain assured the Senate that, together with Cambridge, a Letter being drafted requesting deletion of the Same-Sex Family chapter from the O-Level Sociology book.
