Sindh Begins Admission To Medical And Dental Colleges With Reduced MDCAT Merit 2021
The Sindh Ministry of Health has directed Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBB), Larkana, to begin the admissions process for all public and private medical and dental facilities in the province for the academic year 2021-22 Invitation of applications from candidates who have achieved more than 50% of the marks in MDCAT 2021.
That development comes a week after Sindh’s cabinet unilaterally decided to lower the minimum approval criteria for MDCAT from 65% to 50% in 2021 as the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) has continuously ignored all requests from the provincial government to reduce the success rate. for MDCAT 2021 to help as many students as possible.
In this regard, a senior Sindh Ministry of Health official who wished to remain anonymous announced that the ministry had decided to ensure that as many students as possible were in Sindh’s home in the public medical and dental schools and privately in the province, added that students from other federal states had filled vacancies at these institutions differently.
On the flip side, the PMC categorically rejected the Sindh Ministry of Health’s decision, warning students with MDCAT 2021 levels below 65% not to apply for admission to Sindh medical and dental institutes.
PMC President Dr. Arshad Taqi that PMC does not recognize the enrollment of students enrolled in SMBB Medical University based on criteria already established by PMC.

Dr. Arshad added that PMC 2020 and the Supreme Court ruling will allow the PMC to set mandatory minimum criteria for admission to medical and dental facilities across the country each year and no company can change the criteria.
Meanwhile, the Sindh government is also considering replacing the PMC with the establishment of the Sindh Medical Commission (SMC) through legislation in the provincial assembly.
Sindh’s Minister of Health, Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, at a press conference last week, alluded to the SMC’s training to regulate access to medical and dental facilities in the province.
