Sindh Assembly Forms Committee to Probe HSSC Exam Results Controversy

On Monday, the Sindh Assembly took steps to address the controversy surrounding Karachi students’ Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) exam results by forming a committee of lawmakers to investigate the matter.

The issue gained traction last week when opposition members from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan voiced their concerns during the assembly session. Their protests were sparked by dissatisfaction with the HSSC results and the lack of opportunity to discuss the matter in the session.

The new committee, headed by Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah, has been tasked with reviewing all aspects of the exam results. Sindh Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar assured the assembly that the government is committed to safeguarding students’ academic futures. He further announced plans to appoint qualified professionals as heads of Sindh’s public examination boards.

Lanjar emphasized that the committee would listen to the concerns of affected students and work closely with the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi to address the issues.

The committee includes MPAs Sadia Javed, Shabbir Ahmed, Taha Ahmed, and Abdul Waseem.

In a separate discussion during the question hour, Parliamentary Secretary for the Sindh Cooperation Department, Khairunnisa Mughal, spoke about the government’s role in overseeing cooperative housing societies. She shared that an inquiry officer has been assigned to investigate complaints of irregularities, with several cases forwarded to the Anti-Corruption Establishment.

Mughal assured lawmakers that systems are in place to maintain transparency and accountability in these societies. She pointed to Scheme 33 of the Karachi Development Authority as an example of a cooperative housing society that operates effectively.
