SBP Announces Bank Holiday on 2nd January 2023

The State Bank of Pakistan as well as all SBP Banking Services Corporation locations including the State Debt Bureau will be closed on 2nd January for the bank holiday.

As a result, all banks and development finance institutions (DFIs) will be closed to the general public on Monday. However, all SBP, SPBBSC, Bank, and DFI agents and staff will come to work as usual.

On 31st December (Saturday), the licensed branches of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) and SBP field offices will be open for an extended period to collect revenue, duties, and taxes from the government.

“In order to facilitate government revenue/duties/tax collection, it has been decided that local offices of SBP Banking Services Corporation (SBP-BSC) and authorized branches of NBP will have extended business hours until 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on December 30 (Friday) and December 31 (Saturday), respectively,” the central bank said last week.

The central bank has directed National Institutional Facilitation Technologies (NIFT) to set up a “special clearing” for the same payment instrument at 8 p.m. December 31.

In addition, all banks have been ordered to keep their branches open on 31st December until the sufficient time is needed for NIFT to allow targeted clearing of government transactions.
