Saudi Crown Prince announced a mega expansion of the historic Quba Mosque
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman has approved the expansion of the Quba Mosque, the first mosque built by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
He made the announcement during his visit to Madinah on Thursday.
As part of this project, the historic mosque will undergo the largest development in its history, expanding to 50,000 square meters to accommodate 66,000 worshippers.
“The project aims to highlight the religious importance of the mosque while preserving its architectural style and the monuments located near the mosque,” said the Crown Prince.
He pointed out that the project would increase the landmark’s effectiveness for visitors’ devotional and cultural experience.
According to Saudi media, the project aims to address overcrowding issues and improve security for worshipers. In addition, the nearby road network will be redesigned to facilitate access to the mosque.

The Quba Mosque was the first mosque in the history of Islam. It is five kilometers south of the Prophet’s Mosque and was built in 1 AD. H. (622 AD).
During his visit to Madinah, Prince Mohammed prayed at the Prophet’s Mosque and the Quba Mosque. He was accompanied by Prince Faisal bin Salman, the governor of Madinah, and several senior officials.
