Samsung’s Android 13 Takes Up Half Of The Galaxy S23’s Storage
128 GB of internal memory is very little in smartphones these days, as proven by Samsung’s latest version of One UI 5.1 based on Android 13. The OS occupies a whopping 60GB of storage space, taking up almost half of what you get on the base model
In contrast, Microsoft’s Windows 11, a full-featured desktop operating system, only requires 30GB of free disk space.
The same Android 13 running on Google’s Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro only takes up 15GB of storage, which means there must be something fishy behind the scenes. Android Authority has confirmed that Samsung has packed a lot of bloatware into its latest Android update.
The report adds that Samsung offers the same preinstalled apps as Google to give the impression that it has its own software ecosystem. But instead of getting one app, you get two similar preinstalled apps that perform the same function.
Samsung also sells some of its storage space to third-party developers so they can preinstall their apps on their Galaxy phones. For example, when Meta and Microsoft strike a deal with Samsung, you’ll see apps like Facebook, Instagram, and OneDrive on your device by default.
The worst thing is that half of those pre-installed ones cannot be uninstalled to free up disk space. These can only be disabled to avoid using up your phone’s storage in the background.
This will force most people to buy more expensive versions of Samsung phones for more storage and hopefully, the phone manufacturer will find a solution to this problem soon.
