Samsung Releases Galaxy Z Fold3 5G And Galaxy Z Flip3 With Foldable Screens
Samsung Electronics unveiled its latest high-end foldable smartphones on Wednesday at lower prices than last year to expand demand for foldable devices beyond niche devices.
The tech giant has priced its 5G-enabled Galaxy Z Fold3 with a 7.6-inch main display for $1,799.99 and the Clam Galaxy Z Flip3 for $999.99, compared to introductory prices for last year’s models of $1,999 and $1,380 and $1,380, respectively.
The Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 will launch on August 27 in markets such as the United States and Europe.
“There is definitely a demand for bigger screens as people consume more media, and folding devices are the only way that makes large screens very portable … the price limit is the problem,” said Park Sung .-soon, analyst at Cape Inversiones y Valores.
Foldable phones, which are expected to ship around 8.6 million units this year, are expected to account for just 0.6% of the 1.447 million smartphones shipped.
However, that’s more than double the 3 million folding devices shipped in 2020, and Samsung will lead the market with more than 88% of the market share, as per the Counterpoint Research.
Along with price cuts that analysts say could help boost demand in the United States and possibly China, Samsung’s folding model unveiled on Wednesday touted an improved pen design, durability and “S pen” compatibility.
Samsung announced that it would not stop the Note, and cell phone chief Koh Dong-jin said in March that the company is preparing to launch the Note next year.
For folding smartphones to expand beyond niche models, flagship model prices need to drop to around $1,000-1,500.
There needs to be more offers from companies besides Samsung, and there must be more offers from companies.
In addition to Samsung, which would require 2023, Counterpoint-Analysts said. in a report earlier this year.
