The Kollywood actor, known for his roles in Tamil films, passed away on Saturday morning in Chennai, India.
This came just a day after the release of his latest film ‘Lucky Man’ in which he starred Yogi Babu.
Shivaji has directed over 100 films including Sathya, Apoorva Sagodharangal, Michael Madana Kama Rajan, and Anbe Sivam.
Information about his death was confirmed by a Facebook post, likely shared by a loved one.
“My appa RS Shivaji suffered cardiac arrest and died suddenly,” he said.
“Appa’s body is at Narayani Apartments in the Kamaraj Salai area of Chennai. I am grateful for everyone’s help during this time.”
On X, formerly known as Twitter, journalist Ramesh Bala also paid tribute to the comedian, who made his film debut in the 1980s.
“Popular Tamil actor and comedian #RSShivaji passed away in Chennai this morning,” he wrote.
“He starred in the film LuckyMan this Friday and played several iconic roles including #ApoorvaSagodharargal among others.”
