Renting A House in Dubai is Now Automatically Paid Through A Bank Account
Renters in Dubai can finally pay their home rent automatically through their bank accounts as the Dubai Department of Lands (DLD) has stopped using postdated cheques. The decision becomes effective upon commencement or extension of the contract.
In a statement, DLD said Dubai’s real estate rental portal Ejari is now connected to United Arab Emirates Direct Debit (UAEDDS), allowing tenants to make recurring payments automatically from their bank accounts.
Betterhomes property management manager Niral Jhaveri said people can now set their payment schedule when starting or renewing leases.
He added that this benefits both real estate agents and homeowners as manual paperwork and after-the-fact checks are reduced. Plus, renters won’t face problems like mismatched signs or a lack of checkbooks either.
Dubai introduced this direct debit rental scheme in July 2022, but landlords were still demanding a 12-month advance in a single check from struggling tenants in 2022.
