Your UAE passport is your golden ticket to explore the world. It is therefore very important that it is valid for at least six months from the date of your planned trip.
Renew Your UAE Passport Online
The UAE passport is one of the most powerful passports in the world, allowing visa-free travel to 133 countries and visa on arrival to 35 countries.
Therefore, if you are from the United Arab Emirates and planning to travel in 2023, check the expiry date of your passport to ensure it is still valid.
How To Renew Your UAE Passport Online
The UAE government offers an easy online method for passport renewal through the ICP Smart Services portal. Follow the steps described below:
- Open the ICP Passport Renewal Portal and login. If you have not yet created a UAE Pass account, registration is required.
- Select the “Passport issuance” service.
- Complete the required fields as indicated.
- Pay any applicable service fees.
Once the process is complete, you will be sent a confirmation email regarding your passport renewal application. Once your application has been processed, your renewed passport will be sent via an authorized delivery service.
Renew Your UAE Passport in Person
In some cases, special circumstances may require you to renew your passport in person. In these cases, the ICP Customer Happiness Centers are available to you.
However, please note that in-person UAE passport renewal is only possible during center opening hours and not all centers offer this service. Fortunately, the waiting time is short at just 5 minutes and the appointment itself takes about 7 minutes.

Documents Required For UAE Passport Renewal
To renew your UAE passport you will need:
- Your old passport.
- Original and copy of your Emirates ID.
- Original and copy of your family register.
- A photo that meets the latest requirements.
- A letter from your sponsor (optional).
UAE Passport Photo Criteria
Your ID photo must meet certain criteria to be accepted by smart readers and comply with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards:
- Quality: The photo must be high quality, colorful, and less than six months old. The dimensions should be 35mm x 40mm.
- Background: The background must be white.
- Expression: Maintain a neutral, natural expression without exaggerating.
- Head Position: Your head should be straight and parallel to the camera lens.
- Eyes: Keep your eyes open and look into the camera without colored lenses.
- Glasses: Glasses are permitted as long as they do not cover the eyes or reflect light.
- Dress Code: UAE citizens must wear official UAE clothing.
- Headgear: Headgear for religious reasons or national costume is permitted.
- Resolution: The photo must have a resolution of at least 600 dpi, without ink spots or shrinkage.
UAE Passport Renewal Fees
Certain fees apply to renewing your passport in the United Arab Emirates. Below you will find the UAE passport renewal fees:

Please note that payments must be made by credit card. It is also worth mentioning here that prices may vary depending on time and circumstances.
UAE Passport Renewal Processing Time
Once your renewal application is received and accepted, your renewed passport will be issued electronically within 48 hours.
However, if you apply through Customer Success Centers, processing only takes 24 hours.
Renew Your UAE Passport Abroad
If you are a citizen of the United Arab Emirates and live abroad for study, medical treatment, or work, you can obtain your UAE passport at the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in coordination with the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICP). Renew in your host country.

- A copy of your old passport
- Detailed information proving that you are abroad
- A personal photo
How To Renew A UAE Passport From Abroad
- Open the UAE Pass app (Available on Google Play and App Store) and log in with your existing UAE Pass username and password. If you have never used UAE Pass before, you will need to create a new account.
- Go to the “Individual Services” tab, select “Issue passports and return documents” and then select the “Passport renewal for UAE nationals abroad” service. Click “Start Service” to fill out the request form.
- You will receive an SMS notification asking you to go to the embassy/mission, collect your renewed passport, and return the old one.
Fees And Processing Time
The service fee is AED 60 and the process usually takes around 20 business days. Please note that this service is not available in an emergency. However, you can apply for an emergency pass if necessary.
