Queen Elizabeth’s Surprise Decision To Protect Prince William From Prince Harry Has Been Revealed
While Queen Elizabeth II was concerned for the safety of her two grandchildren, she may have maintained her prejudices.
New ITV series The Real Crown has revealed via Express.co.uk the family’s divergent attitude towards Prince William and Prince Harry, which could be seen as sowing bitter bonds that drove a huge wedge between the now estranged brothers.
The former army chief spoke about his two grandchildren during one of his private audiences with the late monarch.
Sir Mike Jackson, Chief of Staff from 2003 to 2006, said the Queen spoke to him about the need for both princes to serve in the armed forces but only for Harry to be sent to war.
“He told me my grandkids took my shilling so they had to do their homework,” he revealed. “But it was decided that for William, as heir to heir, the risk was too great. But for his younger brother, the risk was acceptable.
“I’m going to break the rule by revealing what happened on that occasion when it became very clear.”
He continued, “You must have done your homework. She is very wise.”
In his explosive memoir Spare, released in January 2023, Prince Harry detailed the difficult childhood he experienced within the royal family. He claimed that he was called “reserved” throughout his life as his older brother William was “the heir”.
