Qatar And The UAE Reopen Their Embassies After 6 Years
According to the Qatari Foreign Ministry, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar have restored diplomatic ties and reopened their embassies in their respective capitals.
The Gulf conflict began in June 2017 when Arab countries including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Bahrain severed diplomatic ties with Qatar.
The Muslim Brotherhood is an extremist group accused by the four nations of supporting Qatar in Egypt while maintaining trade ties with Iran.
The foreign ministers of the two nations, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman and Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed spoke by phone while the two nations reopened their embassies, the Qatari ministry said in a statement Monday.
Al Jazeera, Al Jazeera English, New Arab, Qatar News Agency and several other Qatari news websites were unblocked by the UAE in March this year.
Al-Monitor, a Middle East news outlet, confirmed that citizens of the United Arab Emirates can access these websites. Reportedly, Doha News and Middle East Eye were not yet available in the United Arab Emirates at the time.
It is important to note that two years ago, Riyadh and Cairo were the first to renew their ambassadors in Doha. Bahrain’s approach has yet to be made public.
