In connection with the spike in COVID-19 cases, the Punjab government decided on Friday to close schools in 13 other counties in the province. This is in addition to the four districts in which the schools were already closed.
The announcement was made by Punjab Education Minister Murad Ross in his recent tweet. In light of the surge in coronavirus cases, it has been decided to close all public and private schools in 17 counties in the province.
Dr. Murad wrote in his tweet that schools were already closed in 13 districts, while a decision was taken today to close schools in four additional districts, including Okara, Jhang, Khanewal and Bhakkar.
He said that grades nine through twelve students in 17 districts would attend school two days a week, while schools in the remaining districts of Punjab would remain open on the previous schedule with the full implementation of SOPs.
He said the decision to close schools was a difficult one, but it was made to protect students and teachers, adding that their lives could not be in danger at any cost.
