Prince Charles was forced to marry the “whiter than white” Diana instead of Camilla
Prince Charles’ affair with Camilla Parker was widely reported even when the Prince of Wales was married to Diana.
Charles, who clicked immediately with Camilla when they first met in the 1970s, had to wait decades before he could finally call the Duchess of Cornwall his wife.
Katie Nicholl, the royal editor of Vanity Fair, claimed that Charles really had to work to get the ‘consent’ of royals, particularly the Queen Mother, to marry Camilla.
“Charles and Camilla: King and Queen in Waiting,” he said, “clicked straight away. There was chemistry between the two, and really, I think Charles probably fell in love with Camilla from the moment he met her,” he told Channel 5.
“In many ways, she was a perfect fit to be a future husband to the Prince of Wales.”
Ms. Nicholl continued: “It’s fair to say that members of the royal family and certainly the important figures in Charles’ life – his mother, father, and the Queen Mother, to whom Charles was incredibly close – always sought her advice and didn’t Doubt would have wanted the seal of approval from them, they certainly did not consider them the appropriate royal bridal material.”

Journalist and broadcaster Emily Andrews added: “The heir to the throne has almost always been encouraged to choose a woman who is whiter than white.”
“And Camilla was widely considered to be overly colorful and therefore potentially problematic.”
Charles eventually married Diana. The couple filed for divorce in 1996. Only in 2005 did the future king finally marry Camila.
