Presentation Of A New Coin Featuring The Portrait Of Queen Elizabeth
The Royal Mint has introduced a new coin featuring the portrait of Queen Elizabeth.
The new 50p coins will reportedly not feature the King’s effigy.
“The coins will not be re-minted to ‘minimize waste or unnecessary environmental impact,'” the Daily Express quoted the Royal Mint as saying.
He said the new coin commemorates the BBC’s centenary and pays tribute to the BBC’s global reach by featuring a transmission tower rising from the ground.
It also reads “Inform, Education, Entertain” which are the values formulated by Lord Reith when the organization was founded in 1922.
A Royal Mint official said the coin’s depiction of the Queen is expected to generate “great demand” from collectors.
“Coins are small works of art that tell the story of our nation,” said Rebecca Morgan, director of collectors services at the Royal Mint.
