Polio Vaccination: Govt Push for Mandatory Measures

During a recent gathering of the Parliamentary Caucus for Children’s Rights, Govt proposed linking polio vaccinations with the issuance of essential documents like national identity cards, B forms, and passports.

Dr. Malik Mukhtar, the Prime Minister’s Coordinator for National Health Services, shared concerning updates about polio in Pakistan. He noted that nine cases were reported from just one union council in Dera Ismail Khan, mentioning the urgency of the situation.

Dr. Nikhat Shakeel, leading the Parliamentary Caucus, described the rising cases as a national crisis. She acknowledged the sacrifices of polio workers who risk their lives to protect children but lamented that the disease remains unchecked even after decades of efforts.

The meeting emphasized the need to involve local leaders and scholars in the campaign. PTI’s Ali Muhammad Khan underlined their influence in communities, while JUI’s Shahida Rehmani shared an inspiring instance where Maulana Fazlur Rehman personally went door-to-door in Lucky Marwat during an outbreak to vaccinate children.
