PMD Predicts Heavy Monsoon Rains in Pakistan

Wet currents from the Arabian Sea are likely to enter the upper parts of the country and a westerly wave is also likely to enter the upper parts of the country on July 3, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast.

Under the influence of these weather systems, rain/wind storms (with some heavy rain/hail) are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Chitral, Swat, Mansehra, Kohistan. Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Kurram, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Kohat, Mianwali, Sargodha, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Jhang and Toba Tek Singh July 3-8 with occasional breaks.

Rain/wind storms with scattered heavy drops are also expected in Barkhan, Loralai, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Kalat, Khuzdar, Zhob, Lasbella, Awaran, Musakhel, DI Khan, Bannu, Karak, Waziristan, D.G Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Bhakkar. Layyah, Kot Addu, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Sahiwal and Okara from July 5th to 8th.

Showers/storms with scattered heavy drops are also expected in Sukkur, Jacobabad Ghotki, Shaheed Benazirabad, Larkana, Mithi, Chhor, Padidan, Nagarparkar, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Sanghar, Mirpur Khas, Dadu, Thatta, Badin, Hyderabad, and Karachi on July 7th and 8th.

Heavy rains may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, and Lahore from July 4-7 and trigger landslides in vulnerable areas of Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, and hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Heavy falls can occur in the mountainous regions of D.G. leading to flash floods. Khan and adjacent areas of northeastern Baluchistan from July 6-8.

Farmers are advised to run their farms taking weather forecasts into account. Tourists are advised to be very careful during the rainy season to avoid unpleasant situations.

Loose structures such as utility poles, solar panels, etc. They can be damaged during dust storms, thunderstorms, and heavy falls. The public is advised to stay in safe places during this time.

All relevant authorities have been urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautionary measures during the forecast period.
