PM To Start Health Insurance Scheme For Journalists
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to launch a specially designed health insurance program for journalists on 7th August. The news was shared by Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb on Monday.
To take part in this program, journalists can easily register by filling out the form available on the press information service’s website. The registration process has been made digital to ensure transparency, Minister Aurangzeb stressed.
The government has allocated a significant amount of Rs. 1 billion from the federal budget for this program.
The minister sensitively acknowledged the long-standing problems with health insurance and journalists’ salaries and commended the government’s proactive steps to address these concerns.
In particular, an impressive Rs.110 billion repayment was secured by the Independent Newspaper Employees Court, with direct payments being made to employees in the print media sector.
This health insurance extends to all journalists and media workers, regardless of their status as a member of the press club.
Minister Aurangzeb clarified that the health insurance scheme for journalists differs from the prime minister’s existing health insurance scheme, ensuring that journalists who already benefit from the latter are not entitled to the former.
Responding to concerns about media restrictions, the minister assured that the current government has not taken any punitive action against journalists who have criticized its decisions and performance.
