Pilot Iván Andaur Dies in The Bathroom Of A Boeing 787

According to sources on board the plane, a pilot passed out and died in the bathroom during a commercial trip from Miami to Chile, prompting an emergency landing in Panama on Sunday night.

According to the Sun, at around 11:00 p.m., 56-year-old Iván Andaur was at the controls of a LATAM Airlines flight bound for Santiago. when he apparently went into cardiac arrest.

According to the newspaper, his two co-pilots were forced to make an emergency landing at Tocumen International Airport in Panama City, as a nurse and two doctors on board rushed to save him.

“Unfortunately, we did not have the necessary or sufficient supplies to perform adequate CPR,” said the nurse, identified only as Isadora on social media.

“LATAM needs to improve the issue of the protocol in a health and medical emergency like this, where lives can be saved but resources are needed.”

It was not clear which “resources” he was referring to.

According to a passenger, about 40 minutes after take-off, a co-pilot asked if there were doctors on board.

“They told us that we were going to land because the pilot was unwell and when we arrived they asked us to evacuate the plane because the situation had deteriorated,” said the unidentified passenger.

The passengers were booked into hotels in Panama City and the flight resumed on Tuesday.

“All necessary protocols were followed during the flight to protect the life of the pilot involved. Unfortunately, after landing and receiving further medical attention, the pilot passed away,” the airline told the Post.

“The LATAM Group is deeply saddened by this event and takes this opportunity to express our deepest condolences to our employee’s family.”
