According to team chaplain Ben Hayes, most of the victims of the shooting were teenagers, and among the dead was the girl’s birthday brother, local high school football star Phil Dowdell.
Four people were reportedly killed and 20 others injured at a 16-year-old girl’s “Sweet 16” birthday party in Alabama on Saturday night.

Dowdell’s mother also sustained two gunshot wounds during the commotion, according to the Montgomery Advertiser.
“One of the young men who was killed was one of our star athletes and just a great guy,” Hayes told The Associated Press, citing Dowdell.
“So I knew a lot of these students. Dadeville is a small town and this will affect everyone in the area.”
According to the biweekly The Alexander City Outlook, filming took place at around 10:30 p.m. at the Mohagany Masterpiece dance studio in Dadeville, Alabama near East Green Street and North Broadnax Street.
According to local media WRBL, which cited police sources, more than 20 people were shot dead and taken to nearby hospitals under unknown conditions.
As of Sunday morning, police had not provided details of any suspect or explained what they believe caused the violence.
Tributes Paid In Honor Of Phil Dowdell
In a tweet condemning the violence, Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey wrote: “This morning I weep with the people of Dadeville and my countrymen in Alabama. Violence has no place in our state, and law enforcement will keep us posted as new information emerges.”
The Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Office and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation have assisted the Dadeville Police Department.
Dadeville, part of Tallapoosa County, is about 60 miles from Montgomery, the state’s administrative center.
The US Census Bureau estimates that just over 3,000 people live in the city.
Hours before the tragedy, Louisville witnessed its third mass shooting in the previous seven days.
