The Pakistani rupee continued its downward movement against the US dollar in the currency market on the fourth day of the week.
PKR crossed the Rs. 153 barrier yesterday and continued to deteriorate in the interbank foreign exchange market against the dollar today.
It closed at Rs. 153.46 per dollar at the end of today’s trading day (Thursday April 22nd) compared to Rs. 153.23 against the USD on Wednesday (April 21st). The rupee was down 22 paisas against the US dollar today.
PKR also posted overall losses against other major currencies in the interbank currency market today, having posted nearly all losses yesterday.
PKR has deteriorated against most currencies for most of the week except yesterday.
Traders said the rupee had come under pressure in the past few days as importers continued to ask for the greenback for payments.
The PKR deteriorated by 78 paisas against the euro, 21 paisas against the pound sterling (GBP), 63 paisas against the Australian dollar (AUD) and Rs 1.05 against the Canadian dollar (CAD).
PKR also recorded six paisa losses against the UAR dirham (AED) and Saudi riyal (SAR) in the interbank market today.
