Tributes Paid in Honor of Nicholas Theofilis
“Nick was my working son, so he was very special to me,” Gallagher said.
“He was compassionate, funny, loyal, and an excellent paramedic. I helped him complete his medical degree and I was very proud when he died. Our hearts are broken.”
“He was pure gold from head to toe,” said Falavolito.
“He died doing what he loved,” said Schimizzi.
Pittsburgh Police said there were no patients in the ambulance at the time of the accident. A second vehicle was struck after the accident, but no one inside was injured. After high school, Theofilis worked as an EMT for White Oak EMS. After earning his paramedic certification, he began working full-time for Penn Hills EMS but has remained loyal to the White Oak community.
White Oak EMS leader Paul Falavolito said Theofilis remained with the team part-time while working full-time for Penn Hills, noting, “It says a lot about his character that he would be willing to serve two churches because Penn Hills Her birthplace is.”
“When he became a paramedic, I understood the need to go home to do it,” he said. Theofilis was also a firefighter with the Rosedale Volunteer Fire Department in Penn Hills.
