Muhammad Rafi Usmani was a Pakistani Muslim scholar, jurist, and author who served as Chairman of Darul Uloom Karachi. He was a student of Darul Uloom Deoband, Punjab University, and Darul Uloom Karachi.

He is the author of books such as Ahkām-e-Zakāt, Al-Tālīqāt al-nāfi’ah alā fath al-mulhim, Islām mai aurat ki hukmrāni and Nawādir al-Fiqh. He was a member of the Karachi University Union, Vice President, and member of the Executive Council of Wifaq ul Madaris Al-Arabia.

Mufti Azam Pakistan, Mufti Muhammad Rafi Usmani Sahab, the Grand Mufti of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, has passed away. He was the older brother of Mufti Taqi Usmani.

He’s been ill for a while. The burial will take place in the cemetery on the grounds of Darul Uloom Karachi.

Mufti Muhammad Rafi Usmani was the older brother of Sheikhul Islam Justice retired Maulana Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani. The deceased spent his whole life teaching Quran and working in the Darul Uloom Karachi facility.

Educational Life

Usmani learned half of the Qur’an in Darul Uloom Deoband and emigrated to Pakistan on May 1, 1948. She finished memorizing the Quran in the Masjid Bab al-Islam in Aram Bagh and recited the final lesson with the Palestinian Grand Mufti Amin al-Husseini.

He entered Darul Uloom Karachi in 1951 and graduated from the traditional Dars-e-Nizami in 1960. In 1378 AH he passed the “molvi” and “munshi” (aka “Molvi Fazil”) exams of the university. from Punjab.

In 1960 he specialized in Islamic jurisprudence (ifta) at Darul Uloom Karachi.

Usmani studied Sahih Bukhari with Rashid Ahmed Ludhianvi, Sahih Muslim with Akbar Ali Saharanpuri, Muwatta Imam Muhammad and Sunan Nasai with Sahban Mehmood, Sunan Abu Dawood with Ri’ā’yatullah and Jami’ al-Tirmidhi with Saleemullah Khan.

He studied parts of Sunan ibn Majah under Muhammad Haqīq and completed his studies under Ri’ā’yatullah.

He was authorized to transmit Hadith by Hasan bin Muhammad al-Musyath, Muhammad Idris Kandhlawi, Muhammad Shafi Deobandi, Muhammad Tayyib Qasmi, Muhammad Zakariyya Kandhlawi, and Zafar Ahmad Usmani.

Career

Usmani was a member of the All Pakistan Ulama Council, the Council of Islamic Ideology, the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, and the Zakat Council of the Government of Sindh. He served as Counsel to the Shariat Court of Appeals, Supreme Court of Pakistan.

He was a member of the Examination Board of Wifaq ul Madaris Al-Arabia. He was a union member of NED University of Engineering and Technology and Karachi University and a board member of Wifaq ul Madaris Al-Arabia. He succeeded Abdul Hai Arifi as Chairman of Darul Uloom Karachi.

In Darul Uloom Karachi he taught all the books on Dars-e-Nizami from 1380 AH to 1390 AH. From 1391 AD H. taught hadith and ifta at the seminary. He lectured on Sahih Muslims and trained students in Islamic jurisprudence.

In the late 1980s, the Usmānī participated in jihad against the Soviets with the group Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami (HUJI). He always urged students to stay away from politics.
