More Than 71,000 CNICs Blocked Across Pakistan in Five Years: Interior Ministry

During the Question Hour in the National Assembly, the Ministry of Interior shared detailed figures on the blocking of computerized national identity cards (CNICs) over the past five years.

The ministry reported that 71,849 CNICs were blocked during this time for reasons such as verification issues. Among the provinces, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa saw the highest number of blocked CNICs, with 25,981 cases. Punjab came next, with over 13,000 blocked cards, followed by Sindh with 9,677.

In Balochistan, 20,583 CNICs were blocked. Islamabad recorded 1,370 blocked cards, while Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) reported 446 and 228 blocked CNICs, respectively.

The ministry also shared updates on progress in resolving these cases. Across the country, 44,460 CNICs were unblocked after the required verification process was completed. However, investigations are still ongoing for 13,618 cases that remain unresolved.
